Less-than-amusing Attendance; More-than-amusing Training.

On the upside - Firebrands floorballers are making Ministry of Education people all across the country proud by spending their Saturdays studying.

:)

But nevermind that - it was still an intense training for the 11 of us who did show up....

After warm ups we started with our most favourite drill of all time - snakes! People were getting better, and the coach was busy slaying the keeper by re-shooting all the balls people missed straight at him....

Next was the drill where one person at one end sprints mid-court, stops and sprints to the centre, asks for the ball and shoots it straight into the goal. I'm just going to call it running, passing and shooting. :D

The diagonal passing drill after that was a bit chaotic....it was a new one (for me) - everyone got into pairs and starting from the top corner of the court, we would stand facing our partners and keep passing the ball until the other corner of the court. Finally, the person on the left would run to the other side of the court, receive the ball, and make a clear shot into the goal....

So the coach decides to continue on the whole diagonal pattern.....and we do long, fast passes to our teammates who have sprinted to the other corner. The other person could experiment with their backhand shots once they got the ball...

By about halfway through, we did 2-on-1 drills ...followed by a briefing by Coach Jason on our need to emphasise fast, long shots in games. "If you're not quick enough, the other team will steal the ball, and your teammate will be ticked!"

We did the 2-on-1 again, this time having the attackers catch the defense off guard. The first attacker runs to the middle with the ball, the other attacker shifting sides of the court, and the first attacker shoots 45 degrees to his left, where it gets intercepted by the second attacker. Advice for the defense? "Block the opponents passing path! Don't go for the guy with the ball, block the guy without the ball!"

And as if that wasn't enough for you: we did a 2-on-3 drill too, with pre-determined attackers and defense players.

Unfortunately, Carmen sprained her ankle protecting the goal and had to ice it down afterwards.
....shortly thereafter her mother came to pick her up for ballet class. What perfect timing, right?

GAME TIME!
Interesting....because for once all the players from the Juniors, Women and Men trainings were mushed together to form 2 teams.

Highlights?
A lot of 'high-sticking' from James in the beginning...
A lot of good attempts at the goal from Le Anne's team, it's good to take many shots...
For the girls especially, I think I saw a lot of improvement in our play, considering where we've been since the first day of training.

Training wrapped up with some comments from the coach on our game - how it was good, aggressive and "energetic" towards the beginning, but rather "punctured" towards the end (somehow I think he was referring to me and Daniel becoming forwards).

But anywho! It was a good workout. Good training. Good day.

And for those of you at home reading this when you should be studying....go study!!!

Haha.....
Sleep well
Study hard

and come for floorball next week, alright?

Oh. And Happy [Early] Birthday Coach!
(isn't it interesting what you learn on facebook...)
