Firebrands Bak Chang

vs SXI Lunatics lost 0-3

vs CONTACT drivers lost 1-2

*Rated as the best team in the club by Coach Jason himself, Bak Chang went into the tourney with much expectations from the whole club and also themselves. Semi-finals seemed to be something achievable until they stepped into the court. Against the mighty SAINTS, our guys were totally killed off, the combination of SXI's Algin and Jefferey made our defence look so fragile. 3-0. Our guys were determined to bounce back against CONTACT. It was a 50-50 match, both teams were fighting for a win to secure a place in the quarter-finals. When James drag shot went past CONTACT's keeper, the whole team's spirits were lifted. The joy did not last long as CONTACT equalised later on. Just before the final whistle was blown, Charmaine's rebound was good enough to kill off the entire Firebrands, 2-1. Good match, good runs, good shots, what can we say? The ball is round.

Among all the players, Nicholas stood out. First time playing in a match, his brave saves kept the scoreboard below 3. Keep it up.

Firebrands Bak Kua

vs FRONTLINERS Fusion lost 0-4

vs CONTACT Army lost 0-2

vs INNEBANDY!CO lost 0-5

*The whole team's objective was to have fun and learn as much as they could. Bak Kua knew that their chances of qualifying to the next round was slim after Alex pulled out cause of knee injury. Made up of mostly under-15 boys, the first match against FRONTLINERS saw Bak Kua beaten 4-0. The team went off the court smiling. Bak Kua second match was against CONTACT, a win means there was still chance for the team to qualify. Lack of cutting edge saw the team miss a couple of one-on-one with keeper shots. The on-form CONTACT keeper made the forwards' job harder. In the end, Sheryn's superb free hit sealed CONTACT a comfortable 2-0 victory. Playing INNEBANDY with their tired limbs was not something very good. Beautiful passes from INNEBANDY and Bak Kua's defensive errors saw the match go one-sided towards INNEBANDY. 5-0. No goals was scored by the team but they had fun, not forgetting, they've learnt a lot.

Daniel's tireless run saw him stood up among the rest, better positioning will make him even better in the future. Good job.

Firebrands Bak Hu

vs ZTEC 2011 lost 0-9

vs SXI Kamikaze lost 1-3

vs MINDEN Titanium lost 0-9

*All beginners team. Drawn with ZTEC and MINDEN, the team had no choice but to suffer the 'tortures'. Against ZTEC, the team was like Saudi Arabia and ZTEC was Germany, Amos = Klose. For those who still remember that World Cup match, it was almost similar except the scoreline was worse. 9-0, no complaint, the team tried their best to keep the scoreline below 10. Next up, SXI Kamikaze, the only team in the tourney that the team had a chance to win against. Joshua scored from a free hit, and the whole club was excited to see this beginner team qualify for the next round. BUT, again the combination of the SAINTS killed our hope, this time it was Marcus and Joel, 1-3.

Last match against MINDEN, 9-0. As a conclusion, the whole played really well eventhough some of them just started playing floorball less than a month ago. Praises be upon them.

KESIMPULANNYA

There is no IFs

Many said, if we combine all the forces, we could have achieved something.

If we were to send in only two teams only, we could have achieved something.

what if we sent only two teams and we did not achieve something and the beginners don't get to play?

1)win everything, learn nothing, neglect the beginners or 2) lose, learn lots of things, beginners get their exposure to floorball? YOU choose =)

What Happened.

For anyone out there (I can't imagine who?) who wants to know what happened, what went wrong and what came out of it.

Bak Kua Loti

Hybrid: Sugar & UniHawks

Bak Kua Loti came into this game as underdogs, and left not much the wiser. Put a bunch of nervous floorballers against seasoned ones, many of them state players, and this is what you get: Wipeout.

At the beginning, Bak Kua Loti started quite okay-ly, but the truth that their oppoenents were a league ahead soon emerged as goal after goal was conceded.

Bak Kua Loti were obviously not in form and were snuffed out rather tamely while Hybrid's keeper barely touched the ball. It was like a day off for her.

Hybrid most deservedly took the game home.

Frontliners Amazons

True to their advantage in skill, Frontliners retained possession of the ball throughout the most part of the game while Bak Kua Loti did their best to stop conceding goals.

Even then the team dynamics weren't working for Bak Kua Loti as Frontliners moved on to a 5-goal lead, which was a good enough cushion for Pei Li to sit at the sidelines for a while and let the newer floorballers take to the court.

And even when Frontliners was reduced to two women (due to use of illegal sticks), the under-par forwards failed to deliver and penetrate through the solid defense of Pei Li and Sharron.

So yeah.

Bak Hu Loti

3-2 to Bak Kua Loti, speaking volumes about Bak Hu Loti's capability and potential.

Bak Hu Loti managed to somehow fumble the ball in first, taking the lead. Finally Bak Kua Loti caught up with an own goal by Bak Hu Loti and two other goals.

Credits to Bak Hu Loti keeper Joyce for some very nice saves and catching the ball so many times, to the dismay of this writer.

Sisters Stephanie and Natalie of Bak Hu Loti managed to slip another one into the goal, but fortunately for Bak Kua Loti the whistle sounded thrice.

G12

We meet again.

G12 with the likes of sharpshooter Valerie pummeled through the defense mercilessly and had a good shooting spree.

Any wants of Bak Kua Loti for anything close to revenge (for the recent friendly) fell short as they stumbled over and over again. Their defense proved unable to hold up against G12's arsenal and the forwards just got thwarted every time.

A fitting end to G12's campaign to gold.

Bak Hu Loti

G12

It was like putting Wolves against Manchester United.

Or, more accurately, asking a random guy on the street to make roti canai better than your favourite roti canai seller.

Bak Hu Loti came in ignorant of many rules in the game of floorball, and this was made worse by the fact that their opponents would later turn out to be the champions.

Referees, thank you for your patience :)

The fact that Bak Hu Loti was mostly new to the sport showed itself boldly clear during this match, conceding about a dozen goals while trying to stay mentally strong.

Frontliners Amazons

Okay, besides the fact that we lost..

Sister power! Stephanie and Natalie ran for every ball and took every shot, however messy it seemed and came through with one goal for Bak Hu Loti.

Vern Ern clearly gained her composure and was an important part in Bak Hu Loti's defense.

And well, keeper Joyce made sure the opponents didn't put one past her easily.

This game showed that Bak Hu Loti has big, big potential.

Hybrid: Sugar & UniHawks

Stephanie and Natalie showed that they were a threat as they again worked together and managed to scored one past Hybrid.

Hybrid showed no mercy but instead seemed to relentlessly dive in for the kill each time they could and delivered more often than not.

However much they conceded, Bak Hu Loti remained calm and collected mentally while doing their best to fend off the onslaughts.

Bak Kua Loti

Conclusion.

As club manager Alex said,"Just keep believing... We will be the top."

You can't deny that it was good exposure and experience.

And, yup, it shows that we do have some rising stars indeed =)

It's all in the mind.

Too little mind and you will bagai rusa masuk ke kampung.

Too much and it starts to feel heavy.

Just right, then settle d.

Your mind lets you see.

(okay i'm starting to sound like ky. better stop. but it's relevant.)

The first problem started on the day I got the form. The last problem was solved at 12:30a.m. on Saturday. Problems are like silly mistakes - they make your life interesting (well at least that's the optimistic side).

Lack of players. No one wants to be keeper. How to get the parents' signatures on time? Keeper's helmet and gear. Not enough jerseys. Players no transport.

...

Then finally, the day itself. All the efforts put in - it all culminates down to this. We did it all for this.

And, by some weird stroke of memory loss, I FORGOT TO TAKE MY FLOORBALL STICK OUT OF THE CAR.

Oh noooo.

Nevermind, borrow stick, different feel but still ah what to do. It works.

Bak Hu Loti first game. Bak Kua Loti second game. Bak Hu Loti again third game. Settle, spend the whole first hour at the court.

Bak Hu Loti's first game - Hybrid: Sugar & UniHawks. Eventual runners-up.

Wah, honestly, it was mensiasuikan (means embarrasing). The ignorance of the players was most definitely NOT bliss, not at that very moment.

You know what, maybe we should've sent one team in only.

Ah, but for the sake of the growth of floorball :).

I can't bear to watch.

...

And that day, for me, when in court, half of the battle was in the mind.

You kinda feel lost on court sometimes. Where do I go? What should I do? What am I doing?

Or frustrated, till your patience is cut when your teammates don't know what "tap" (tap the ball during a free hit) and "clear" (clear the ball) mean.

Or just struck in disbelief when the ball somehow rolls past your keeper into the net.

Or wishing you could play floorball properly.

...

And eventually Bak Hu Loti did pick up their pace - with the synergic combination of sisters Natalie and Stephanie stabbing in some less-than-beautiful-but-still goals; first-time goalkeeper Joyce making some very good saves and catches; and the defense beefing up with Vern Ern clearing the balls.

No, I don't regret sending in two teams. For the sake of the growth of floorball :). It was good exposure.

For Bak Kua Loti, I'd say it was an off-day, including myself. For me la, from my perspective. Opponents seemed to cut through the defense and weave around as if nothing was there to stop them. And the forwards weren't delivering. The goals weren't coming.

Okay, uh, before this gets taken wrongly, I don't mean the players weren't good. They are.

Anyways, even step-in coach / team manager Gary was so kin-cheong at the sidelines.

Let's just say we were the underdogs, the small fish.

At the end of the day, once all's said and one, it was good exposure, much fun, experience gained, knowledge earned.

Gary Lee Kah Yoon, for the big HELP he's been to the teams. Like driving from Tanjung Tokong to PISA to collect parents' signatures, solving the problems I dumped on him after he stepped in for Alex, buying kneeguards, supporting, and being the only guy involved at a team's sidelines throughout the tournament.

The organizers, referees, secretariats, ball-pickers - for making the tournament historic and to remember.

And God, for being there. Means a lot.
