Jason thinks like Benitez

"Benayoun passes it to Kuyt, a square pass back to Benayoun, he sees Torres,
through pass upfront, Torres gets the ball, Ferdinand tries to stop him but he shoots.
GOALLLLLLL"

Floorball football floorball football, still ball
so when it comes to a ball game there's always one thing you need to do.. PASS
that's why badminton is called badminton and not badminton ball cause you don't pass the shuttlecock, anyway anyway
BACK TO BUSINESS

As promised last week, coach Jason started the training by asking the players to accomplish 200 passes, forehand passes. From now onwards he will be looking seriously into our passes. So guys, heads up, look into the eyes and pass. But remember, don't put electricity

Several drills concerning passing were done and it was time for APPLICATION
The players were all split into 4 teams, two seniors teams two juniors teams with a new line consisting of the PMR-mers. The seniors were challenged to keep all the goal posts and put back the badminton nets for those who lost. While for the juniors and the girls, they were given the HAK to play too, same durations, just like Pendidikan Moral's nilai-s 'melindungi hak kanak kanak' and ' menghormati hak wanita'

Okay and training ended, who lost? it doesnt matter as all of the players helped out to clear the courts.

And what have you learnt?
PASS

AND yeah,
Liverpool won by 2-0
why?
they passed a lot =D

The Deepavali Training!!!

Another week of training and this time after a hearty Indian meal then straight to training for some. What a laugh. somewhere between the drills some of them had to sit from the double portion of rice they had lolz.

Ok, the day started with...(let the pictures do the talking)
people coming.. duh...

first there were just the few early comers who are somehow always early.. which is a GOOD thing.. some of them before the warm up starts are already heated up lolz.. all sweaty

They Came!!
They talked!!

Then people came and did the usual five-O's (in some place that means police but not in this case)
Drills Drills Drills... Run people run, and so everybody ran with the coach cracking the whip behind our backs... "One teeny mistake and 20 push-ups everyone" =D can you imagine the joy?
Naw.. nobody did it wrong so no push-ups whoohoo!! Cheers people, good improvement. Say, come 3 months earlier and i think we'd all be doing push ups eh?

They Shot!!

So the regular drills and spills; snakes, two line drill, then came the IMPROVED SNAKE!!!!

They Blocked!!

And there was the coach (bullying [kidding]) training the players hands on, better show then just tell they say.
He blocked, caught, and let in... (it's a package you know..)

So drills and spills came to an end when the coach said... "You all ah.. lacking game experience.. so we shall play more game"(ok not literally like that but something like that haha) SO GAME WE CAME!!

Game time was life on the fast track putting lessons into practice.

Then there was SPK(senior pastor's kid) Shaun who was distracted while playing lol.. although he did score against that James guy.

Life on the faster lane....

The day came to and end with the coach briefing/debriefing the players on future drills and team stuff then Alex's turn to talk close stuff and collect fees

Look at how many people we have now.. definitely growing!!
This is me(that James guy)... with the report and pics.. hope ya'll like it!

Less-than-amusing Attendance; More-than-amusing Training.

On the upside - Firebrands floorballers are making Ministry of Education people all across the country proud by spending their Saturdays studying.

:)

But nevermind that - it was still an intense training for the 11 of us who did show up....

After warm ups we started with our most favourite drill of all time - snakes! People were getting better, and the coach was busy slaying the keeper by re-shooting all the balls people missed straight at him....

Next was the drill where one person at one end sprints mid-court, stops and sprints to the centre, asks for the ball and shoots it straight into the goal. I'm just going to call it running, passing and shooting. :D

The diagonal passing drill after that was a bit chaotic....it was a new one (for me) - everyone got into pairs and starting from the top corner of the court, we would stand facing our partners and keep passing the ball until the other corner of the court. Finally, the person on the left would run to the other side of the court, receive the ball, and make a clear shot into the goal....

So the coach decides to continue on the whole diagonal pattern.....and we do long, fast passes to our teammates who have sprinted to the other corner. The other person could experiment with their backhand shots once they got the ball...

By about halfway through, we did 2-on-1 drills ...followed by a briefing by Coach Jason on our need to emphasise fast, long shots in games. "If you're not quick enough, the other team will steal the ball, and your teammate will be ticked!"

We did the 2-on-1 again, this time having the attackers catch the defense off guard. The first attacker runs to the middle with the ball, the other attacker shifting sides of the court, and the first attacker shoots 45 degrees to his left, where it gets intercepted by the second attacker. Advice for the defense? "Block the opponents passing path! Don't go for the guy with the ball, block the guy without the ball!"

And as if that wasn't enough for you: we did a 2-on-3 drill too, with pre-determined attackers and defense players.

Unfortunately, Carmen sprained her ankle protecting the goal and had to ice it down afterwards.
....shortly thereafter her mother came to pick her up for ballet class. What perfect timing, right?

GAME TIME!
Interesting....because for once all the players from the Juniors, Women and Men trainings were mushed together to form 2 teams.

Highlights?
A lot of 'high-sticking' from James in the beginning...
A lot of good attempts at the goal from Le Anne's team, it's good to take many shots...
For the girls especially, I think I saw a lot of improvement in our play, considering where we've been since the first day of training.

Training wrapped up with some comments from the coach on our game - how it was good, aggressive and "energetic" towards the beginning, but rather "punctured" towards the end (somehow I think he was referring to me and Daniel becoming forwards).

But anywho! It was a good workout. Good training. Good day.

And for those of you at home reading this when you should be studying....go study!!!

Haha.....
Sleep well
Study hard

and come for floorball next week, alright?

Oh. And Happy [Early] Birthday Coach!
(isn't it interesting what you learn on facebook...)

Of bronzen Greek gods and flushing Roman goddesses

GET A FLAWLESS SUN TAN IN 3 HOURS!

Don't even have to go to the beach.

Didn't bring sunblock?

It's okay, no one else bothered to.

Caution: You may feel uncomfortably hot and sticky. Sweat may also be a side-effect, but so is losing a few pounds.

...

Once upon a time, it was a bright, sunny afternoon. Winnie-the-Pooh thought it good that he would pop by at his friend Piglet's..

..well wherever Pooh Bear stayed, it definitely wasn't Penang.

No one would dream of going out at 1 p.m. in the afternoon on a bright, sunny day here.

Except maybe..

...

3/10/09. Couldn't get PBSM, but no problem. Training still on!

At a basketball-turned-floorball court.

..you can see Wayne there on the phone. It was 1p.m. and no one was there yet.

Minutes later, cue the arrival of the hot biker dudes.

The training ground, with trees around.

Setting up the goalposts first...

...and put your bags, bottles, shoes at the side.

Warm-up was four half-rounds around the grassy area behind the basketball court.

Ooooh, the smell of freshly-cut grass.

Next, the basic of the basic of the basic, which is not the basic - passing.

Combined training was a boost to the players as the court wasn't overcrowded and we could train alongside everyone else in Firebrands Floorball Club - whether guy or girl, senior or junior, young or old.

Coach Jason making use of bright, orange cones to explain the next drill: the X-box.

And now we put it into action.

Later training progressed to 2-on-1s. Coach Jason taught the defenders the technical side of defending, and on keeping a cool head.

Speaking of cool, the hot, searing sun meant more fatigued players than usual, and so waterbreaks and briefings took place under our very own...

...Pokok Demokrasi!

Coach Jason with the cones again.

And getting down on his knees to push home a point. Oh and check out the ground! The pebbly path, good for walking on barefooted in the name of foot reflexology.

Let's think again now, shall we?

Next, game time!

Here's when we really get to reap the benefits of combined training =D

No keeper? No problem. Goals only counted if the ball hits either of the top corners of the net.

So, after a goalless game full of valiant efforts by the players, debriefing.

Training drew to a close with a prayer by Sarah, to the amazing God who answers our prayers and held the rain even though there were gray clouds in the sky. And it only rained at about 6-something p.m., well after our training.

...

The aftermath: James getting a few tones darker; and Joyce, Sarah and Eureka getting sunburnt.

Just a step closer to looking like bronzen Greek gods and flushing Roman goddesses.
