holidays?... training is still on guys!

Hello readers! you may ask why isn't the blog updated for a long long long time. as the exams for most of the players have ended, it's time to resume the regular Saturdays at Red Crescent Headquarters for training!

this Saturday started off with the seniors. Having three quarters of the team being involved in the morning match against KLIUC, it was a light training for them. Drills came first. With snakes first and proceeding to play-ups. With that, it was game time.

then it came to juniors. The next-big-guns of fireBRANDS started off with drills too. As usual, the training format kept the same. However, it was a different drill this week. With some seniors helping the juniors out in movement, it gave the young guns more experience on movement.

As the Saturday training came to a close, it was a good training for everyone after the studying for the year-end exams!

Just a few updates for November :
  • for the month of NOVEMBER and DECEMBER, training will be held at ISLAND GLADES BASKETBALL COURT at the same usual time (1-3pm for seniors and 3-5pm for juniors and girls)
  • a friendly match against a Singaporean U-16 team will be happening during the holidays. so please keep checking in on the facebook page or this blog for updates.
We would also like to extend our invitation for any of you who wishes to come and learn about this adrenaline rush game called floorball.
Do come and check our facebook page and leave a message if you're interested in joining us.

the Saturday which was so HOT!

So, this Saturday was quite unexpected. A sudden call from the Coach G... but not to worry, there was still floorball! So, with our gears packed, we rushed down to the outdoor training facility... which was the Island Glades Basketball Court!

Hot + Floorball = Very Tiring but... FUN!

Hence, beverages were prepared to quench our thirst. Cold water that is, helped us to cool us. So, training started with snakes and then a drill which was very tiring. Not to mention, this was a training that could be win in the 'most break in a training session'. After every drill we had, there it is... a break. After a 5-on-4 drill, we had a game to wrap the whole training up. Furthermore, we would like to acknowledge our fireBRANDS players who will be playing in the KFSPP-Rising Star competition next Saturday. Do your best guys and God speed!

and that's for the seniors...
on the juniors' chapter

The juniors' training started off with dribbling the ball in a same box without looking up, it was challenging as the box was quite small and there were quite a lot of players.

After the warm up, we played a new type of drill which consist of multiple players with a hand full of 'monkeys', who are required to get the ball from the other players. It was quite a challenge, nevertheless, we managed to complete it without much difficulty.

With much excitement for more, we finally get the ground and played real floorball matches.

It was overall quite an experience playing at a different and hot place. But it was nice having a change of place.

the day we had awesome beverages...

Seniors. A long time since seniors had their own time of training. A Saturday evening filled up with activities to enhance our game plays. Drills after drills... one by one, slowly we got the hang of it. Coach G was there to help prepare some of the players' in the upcoming KFSPP-Rising Star competition. The Khanz who were present gained knowledge on a better play-up.

Drills later, it was a one-on-one game we had to play. For a minute, on a badminton court, players' had to try to score a goal. It was a test to go to the extreme, to train ourselves to stand the immense pressure. Well, after the exciting and tiring drill, it was game-time! A 4-on-4 battle proved much more organized from what was learnt from the drills... and that's for all... for now. We'll be back the next Saturday, so do please come!

On the junior's side...

Training started with the new warm up, which is dribbling the ball around the court. Then we were told to dribble the ball around in circles without looking at the ball itself.

After much hardship, we then proceed to do a different type of snakes. (Bringing the ball to half court, then dribble it in front of the goal post and shoot) It was quite enjoyable because we haven't done snakes in a while!

Next, we were doing a completely new drills. It was one on one at half court, trying to shoot in the goal while balls were being thrown in. It was extremely tiring as we got to face the opponent one one on!

Lastly, we went on playing the game. First, it was 3 on 3, then 5 on 5.

Oh LOOK! our coach, Gary even prepared some beverage for the players!

Under the Sun

fireBRANDS' floorball training was back after a week, it was held at Delima basketball court as RC was booked for that day. We were greeted at the court with some bull shits and puddles of water but the spirit of the floorballers allow them to carry on playing at the court.

After the usual five rounds around the court and stretching, we were sorted into three groups. Two groups playing against each other while the other group go for a jog around the field, then change.

The players playing under the watchful eyes of coach Gary

The other groups eagerly waiting for their turn.

The exciting training ended around 3pm with coach Gary giving a talk with the players.

Floorball training next week will be back at Red Crescent Headquarters at the usual time.
Seniors: 12.30 - 3pm ; Juniors and Girls: 3 - 5pm

Vision into Reality

The last wall.

As the last match in PFL Division 2 2010, fireBRANDS were up against Trailblazers. fireBRANDS being in the driving seat into being PFL Division 2 champions and a promotion to Division 1 in 2011 needed to secure it with a win against Trailblazers.

At 11.00am, referees blew the whistle to signal the last match for Division 2 2010. Sadly, one of our teammates wearing a wrong-numbered jersey led to a 2 minute bench-penalty.

Besides that unfortunate incident, fireBRANDS started off with a bang when team captain, Gary penetrated through the defense of Trailblazers in the first few minutes of the first half. A quick goal had put fireBRANDS in the limelight for a first trophy since entering Division 2 in 2009. Time passed, lines after lines, players after players played on that green court.

Trailblazers' defense was really up-tight. Seniors took shots after shots to bring the ball into the goal posts were to no avail. The opponents box-play had really made the seniors a tough time scoring. When the opponents called for a time-out, a new strategy had to be established. Hence, luring them out from the box was the only way to score.

As we managed to play our strategy right, goals were scored. Most of the time during the game, the opponents were like the Great Wall of China trying to protect their country or a.k.a. goal posts from the Mongolian invaders a.k.a. fireBRANDS. Kudos to Trailblazers for keeping all of the seniors at bay.

Into the second half, it was much of a one-sided game when the seniors were playing in the offensive zone. On a few occasions, Trailblazers' managed to steal the ball from us and went down to the seniors zone for a shot. Our goalkeeper, Nicholas Choong saved a goal to keep a clean sheet record for today's match.

As the 20 minutes was up, fireBRANDS emerged as champions of Division 2 2010. With no doubt, the vision of fireBRANDS became a reality. Through HARDWORK and DETERMINATION brings a fruitful outcome.

Broken Rifles

The final day of war beckoned and Patriots once again took up their rifles to war against Spearhead. The medal outcome for themselves was obvious but the scoreline and the journey weren't so all Patriots could hope for was a slim margin and to throw some dirt at what would be Spearhead's clean sheet; and maybe even to defy all odds and give Frontliners the silver.

Prep.

Final prep.

Warming-up for the last time, both teams geared up physically and mentally to make the best of their last match.

Sound the battle horn, and cue the cheers:

PATRIOTS!!!

Who are we?! SPEARHEAD!!!

The whistle blew and war commenced.

Possession was, as expected, at a low for Patriots. Spearhead controlled the most part of the game. This provided a yawning gap between SoTs for both teams. While Spearhead pushed forward with passes and teamplay, all Patriots could hope for was to counterattack once their opponents took a shot at their goal.

Unfortunately Patriots' defence was shaky and this gave Spearhead numerous opportunities to get past the said defence. The defensive errors made by Patriots were costly as a few goals even looked gifted, with wrapping, ribbon and all. However credit must be given to keeper Joyce who had nerves of steel even when her team may have been letting her down.

Nevertheless Patriots did the best they could in fending off the onslaughts. Frequently under fire, they eventually got a decent hold at beefing up their defence. The forwards launched a few strikes of their own but none managed to bear fruit due to lack of support.

Jesher double-teamed in front of the goal.

How the other side looked like.

The contrast was stark as Joyce was kept tense most of the time, while Syahmi had plenty of time to relax. However one-sided the game was, Patriots fought on till the final whistle.

Helpless but to watch.

11-0 to Spearhead. Brotherly retribution for Trailblazers' defeat, perhaps?

Tragically Patriots were fighting with broken rifles so all they could use were bayonets (means those pointy sharp things protruding out from above the rifle's barrel). Bayonets against spears, obviously the spears had the upper hand. But good effort; well done to both teams:)

On a brighter note:
All in all Patriots' campaign was actually better than expected as they kept themselves out of last spot. Come next year we'll definitely see a better chance of acquiring a medal as their compatriots, FireBRANDS move up to Division One.
