Sweet 16 January 2010.

[writeup for seniors training is supposed to go here. xP]

Free hit!

Fred controlling the ball while Indy obtrudes into his private space.

High-socked James tussling for the ball with Zeph.

And lastly, debrief =)

Now then, we shall proceed to fBFC's second training session:

GIRLS AND JUNIORS! =D

Attendance skyrocketed in comparison to last week's as the floorballers bounced back to where they belong - the court.

And fireBRANDS Floorball Club would like to officially welcome, Miss Number Nine *points to above photo*, Amelia Tan the tennis player (=

For this week though, there was a slight change..

Instead of the usual contact-lensed, wide-smiling, ever-friendly Coach Jason, this time we have..

..state player, Asics-wearer, Unihoc-wielder, put your hands together for STEVEN GERRARD Coach Gary Lee!

Training began at about 3:15p.m. with 6 people jogging around the court and stretching, but by 3:30p.m. the rest of the troop had arrived (pls do try to be earlier next time, thank you) and were all geared up and raring to go.

After warm-ups, it's _ _ _ _ _ _! (y'all should already know what goes in the blanks kan..)

A low-flying yellow floorball propels past keeper Joyce into the net.

Next up, what the whole training was really about...

...SHOTS! Wrist-shots more specifically.

Two variations of the same drill:
1. Dribble ball to net, control, and take a shot.
AND
2. Receive a pass, and do what you did in 1.

Under fBFC's very own..
..Mauricio Pellegrino Gary Lee!..

(the real Pellegrino - Liverpudian first-team coach. see any resemblence? hahaha.)

ANYWAYS, the players were taught the PROPER way of shooting.

While undergoing the drills, players were also taken aside for individual one-on-one personal training with Gary on how to shoot.

"okay you watch me.."

"..lu kua, lu kua.."

"PRESS!"

"see how i press here, then i release?"

"when the ball reaches my first leg.."

And after lots and lots of shooting, it was time for the long-awaited =)

the camera suddenly got spammed with photos of an x3m tycoon. (it's on SALE btw, refer to chatbox)

And unfortunately Coach Gary had to leave smilingly early.

But anyways.

Everyone was divided into three teams.

The teams were very aptly called Team One, Team Two and Team Three.

So it was like this: 1v3, 1v2, 2v3.

(i just felt the need to write more unnecessary facts, that's all.)

Okay photos!

Gerald: ivy.. pls pls.. let me have this ball..

Gerald the golfer retrieving the ball (flying hair and all) while Referee Indy steps away.

Derek (Wong) being chased by (Daniel) Derek.

And Eulene trying to cangkul the ball away from oncoming threats while Ben Yeoh decides to take a sweep at her head. xP

So, at about 4:50p.m., it was time for a brief debrief before putting back the nets and stuff.

Girls & juniors, thank you to ALL who came, those who didn't pls come back, and everyone please DON'T BE LATE!

DIV 2 IS COMING!

Did you know that..?

As We Step Into 2010

Training started off with the guys. After weeks of fats accumulation in their tummies, they finally found their way back to the court and tried to burn it off.

As usual, snakes and '3 levels' drills were done to warm up their bodies and also to adjust themselves back into floorball mode. Keepers were replaced by benches as both of them were unable to attend due to personal reasons.

Well, as Division 2 is coming nearer and nearer, the coach was trying to form the lines and of course in order to do so you need to experiment. The forwards were grouped into 3s while the defenders were in pairs. The forwards got the chance to play together and at the same time develop their style of play. Hard to explain. Anyway, after all the experiments, the coach was quite satisfied and so we moved on to game.

This time, the forwards and the defenders were put in together to form the best lines. More than an hour of game did tire off many of them and so the training ended with a 'new year speech' by the manager himself as the girls and juniors marched into the court to start their training.

At 3 40, juniors and the girls started their training. i mean not really training as not many of them turned up so coach jason decided to just let them play for the whole training session. Many of them enjoyed it as weeks of 'floorball hunger' were put to an end.

Yeah not to be forgotten, two new potential players were seen holding the sticks too. Vincent aka png png or mr bombastic came for fireBRANDS training for the first time and Gerald aka monkey was back in penang after last seen appearing in training months ago. Keep coming for training and be ready for division 2.

till then, see you on saturday =)

The End. (of 2009)

fireBRANDS Floorball Club's last training for the year 2009 kicked off with the last five-rounds-round-the-court warm-up for the year.

kuat lari..

And the final bout of stretching..

kaki kangkang..

And of course, the must-have snakes!

aiseh focus nice..

Check out that round yellow thing on the goalkeeper's pants..

And Ivy making full use of her last chance to high-stick during snakes. (pls hold your stick properly)

Due to the unexpectedly massive turnout of players (almost 3o i think), girls and guys were separated for drills, with Tania and Gary handling each group respectively.

Huge spurt in attendance also meant a lack of sticks, leaving some players without.

Girls listening to their coach-for-the-day (and Ivy.. doing something).

Monkeying around =)

Floorball trainings teach you to QUEUE UP and wait your turn.

Guys getting about during drill time.

Due to the lack of sticks available, thus inhibiting the full participation of every player during drills.. (means big headache for the coaches)

.. it was decided that GAME TIME would start earlier =D joy!

All the guys, juniors and girls played with and against each other.

So since game time was so long, here's lots of photos of it! Their last game time for the year..

Eulene stretching for the ball.

Zeph attacking Bev.

Ko ko Gary briefing the juniors.

Like sunflowers facing the sun, the floorballers face the ball. (i think i've used that line before somewhere..)

Derek going in for the kill.

Eunice getting a hold on the ball while everyone else looks on.

Juniors v. Girls - who'll get the ball??

Muka-tutup (Face-off)

Indy the 'goalkeeper' on all fours.

And nice focus! (again on Daniel Tan.. haih.)

Finally, the floorballers gathered for their final end-of-training briefing.. which lasted for a good half hour.

Among the things discussed: the highlights and lowlights of the year; about goalkeeper gear; anniversary dinner (sounds like wedding lol); extra trainings for selected players and what have you.

Group photo.. (i forgot to take a proper one DARN)

Alex, the main briefer, being club manager.

Ponytailed listeners.

And, the last photo taken of the last training of 2009: Gary memberi pendapatnya. (don't you feel so honoured?)

The end. (it's a HAPPY ending mind you!)

PS: if you're wondering why the post is up so early..

.. fireBRANDS ANNUAL YOUTH CAMP '09 IS TOMORROW!!! =D

The training after SUKPEN 09...

Oh yeah. That's the most creative title EVER. :)

After a tiring week, training today was....alright. It could've been better - longer training or higher team morale. But that's the way life goes right? You get a little, you give a little.

Okay, so due to time restraints, we managed to do 2 drills after warm ups: triangle passing for the guys and....*sighs* (haha) the cones (ball control) for the juniors and gals. Because ultimately our greatness weakness is: the basics. I know it sounds cliche' (by now of course), but until we get those down, we don't stand a chance.

We also continued on our 200-passes ....

Around 2.00 PM, we went straight to games; this time all the teams going against each other so that we can gain proper game experience.

Pemuda sedang mengamati perlawanan bola lantai....

First game - Hamid Khan guys versus the girls. The catch? The guys couldn't dribble the ball once they received it....= they had to rely on looking up and passing properly. Important.

The goal was set up differently - hit either the two cones at the top corners of the goal, the stick on top of the goal or the ball bag on the ground. Defending team had to do push-ups for every goal in.

Debriefing had to take place outside today due to the fact that the kind Malay lady who always sits outside ushered us out. And the people who came to decorate the hall for a Chinese wedding later were rushing in.

Congrats to the happy couple! We hope you don't mind the stench of our sweat on the walls, stage and floor, yeah? That's what'cha paid for anyways right...

With sounds of inflating balloons in the background, Gary debriefed us about continuing to work on skill and technique. Alex reminded us to "keep our mental" during games, and to not lose our cool, with reference to an incident during SUKPEN.

Hopefully all of us will recover from defeat over the weekend and strive to play with our heads, not our hearts, the next time round. Thank you to our loyal supporters and our spirited players....and remember - if you want the rainbow, you've got to put up with the rain.

....and apparently a lot of it.
